The first meaningful topic I learned about in Computer Information Systems is website development. I learned how to create a web page, enter text, and create links to other pages within my site. I also learned how to insert pictures into my website to make it more personal. This is a meaningful topic to me because I never had any experience with web design and I had no knowledge whatsoever about how build a site from scratch. In the future, I hope to own my own auto mechanic business and with that responsibility, I am going to need the knowledge I learned in this class pertaining to website development. Since I now know how to develop a basic website from scratch, I will be able to develop a site for my business in the future.

            The second meaningful topic I learned about in this class was PowerPoint. I learned how to create PowerPoint presentations using graphics, text, and color. Within the presentation, I learned how to make slides using bullet points and how to transition between slides with animation. This is a meaningful topic to me because I need to know how to present important things in my life, and having the knowledge of PowerPoint will make my presentations more effective and professional looking. In the future, PowerPoint will help me to present new products or concepts to my employees and business partners.

            The third meaningful topic I learned about in Computer Information Systems is spreadsheets. I learned how to create a spreadsheet using the Excel program. This is a meaningful topic to me because I am a very organized person. Knowing how to organize my personal information into a spreadsheet will only help me to be even more organized. In the future, knowing how to do this will enable me to keep track of my finances, inventory, and my customer’s information. Owning a successful business and knowing how to create a spreadsheet are two things that walk hand and hand. Because of this, I am so glad that I enhanced my knowledge of spreadsheets.

            The fourth meaningful topic I learned about in this class is home networks. I learned how to create a network for multiple computers within my home. I learned how to setup a home network using either WiFi or Ethernet. I also examined the costs involved with each setup and learned that the Ethernet setup is the more economical choice. This topic is meaningful to me because I need to know how to setup a network in my house. I have multiple computers in my house and it is important that I know how to connect them all to each other and the internet. In the future, knowing how to setup a network will help me in my mechanic business. I will be able to set up a network in my business, which will be more cost efficient.
